About Us

admin June 13th, 2007

TheSnark.org is a growing collective dedicated to promoting a single, consistent and attractive solution to marking verbal irony in text passages. We are design professionals, teachers, typesetters, hobby readers, texters and folks who just type what we feel.

Naturally, the snark itself is not trademarked, patented, or otherwise restricted from use by anyone. We seek the broadest adoption possible, so go ahead, give it a spin right now.

Credits: The original idea of the irony mark is credited to Alcanter de Brahm. The use of an ending tilde to note sarcasm is by way of Tara Liloia. The modified ligature, implementation in typefaces, and adaptation to the broader field of verbal irony is from Choz Cunningham. The name comes from Lewis Carroll’s poem, by way of Geo Ben.

TheSnark.org website is supported and maintained by !Exclamachine Type Foundry. The website is powered by WordPress. Design and code by NodeThirtyThree , Sadish Bala, and The Snark Organization’s nameless intern horde.
